Back on track

Thistle beat Airdrie 2-0 in what can only be described as a poor game.

The main talking point of the game however was the performance of referee Scott MacDonald, whose inept and soft application of the rules of the game were absolute bollocks.

First things first he was an incredibly soft touch, blowing up for a foul at every infringement Thistle made and I mean EVERY one.

Thistle took the lead through Paul Cairney, a good save from Simon Donnelly created a crowded penalty area but the wee man was on hand to tuck away his eighth goal of the season, levelling him up with Donnelly for the season.

Cairney doubled his tally and Thistle's lead shortly before half time, an incisive run into the box followed up with a tidy finish.

Airdrie cracked the bar with a stunning volley but this was to be the best chance of the game for the bottom feeding Diamonds.

Comedy gold insued in the 2nd half as Airdrie took a bit of impetus in the 2nd half but they missed horrible sitters, mis-hit the ball or even mis-kick completely when they got within the Thistle penalty box.

Time for c**k up number two from MacDonald, Airdrie in my view should have had a penalty when half-time sub Scott Gemill was crudely barged off the ball. Our defender got a bit lucky methinks.

His third was another one involving Scott Gemmill, receiving a yellow card for diving despite Martyn Corrigan putting in one of the most perfectly executed tackles I have seen at Firhill to prevent him from scoring.

Harsh 2nd booking red cards for Thistle's David Rowson and Airdrie's Alan Trouten to compound a poor game which Thistl;e never really needed to put much effort into to win.

Game two of Davie Irons temporary spell is against runaway leaders Dundee at Dens Park next week - easy eh?
