Friends

In this world, you know who your friends are or at least you are supposed to. I certainly don't. So-called friends have really let me down tonight.

Inverness report

We came from behind to beat Inverness at a very foggy Firhill.

Thistle were slow to start and Ross Tokely headed the visitors in front after just seven minutes.

Caley could have added to the lead but the Thistle defence and Jonny Tuffey, and then the crossbar denying Caley a 2nd goal before the break.

But in that respect Thistle also deserved to be level with Inverness keeper Ryan Esson putting on a masterclass between the sticks to twice deny Steve Lovell

McCall introduced much-missed Stephen McKeown to the side in the second half and it changed the flow of the game and we equalised in the 53rd minute, Jamie Adams heading an Ian Maxwell cross beyond the despairing Ryan Esson.

Stevie Lovell had been on song the entire game with Esson denying himin the first half but he eventually opened his Thistle account with a superb finish from a great through ball.

Thistle were holding on a bit at the end but in the end we got the win that moves us to within two of the top.

Love-ll is all you need.

All I Need

Everywhere someone's getting over
Everybody cries
And sometimes you can still lose even if you really try
Talking about the dream
Like the dream is over
Talk like that
Won't get you nowhere
Everybody's trusting in the heart
Like the heart don't lie

[Chorus]

And that's all that I need, yeah
Someone else to cling to, yeah
Someone I can lean on
Until I don't need to
Just stay all through the night
And in the morning let me down
Cause that's all that I need right now

Everywhere someone's getting over
Everybodys life is someone
People still use other people with a crooked smile
And all around the world there's a sinking feeling
Out there right now someone's feeling
Down on themselves and don't know why
Every night

[Chorus]

And that's all that I need, yeah
Someone else to cling to, yeah
Someone I can lean on
Until I don't need to
Just stay all through the night, yeah
And in the morning let me down
Cause that's all that I need right now

And life ain't no beauty show
We don't know where tomorrow ends
And when we're sad
It's kind of a drag

Just stay all through the night
And in the morning let me down
Yeah, cause that's all that I need
Yeah, that's all that I need
Yeah, that's all that I need
That's all that I need right now
Right now

It can't be that difficult

Right now I am suffering as a result of the economic down turn. I have been registered unemployed for nearly 6 months now and I have to actually say that it isn't all my own fault.

I feel like I'm not trying hard enough, which admittedly I probably ain't - but when you apply for work online time after time and receive not one reply, how are you supposed to feel?

I've had one reply back from an employer in my times emailing my CV and that was to tell me I didn't get the job. Pretty annoying.

I can't stand this boredom any longer. I really do not know what to do or where to turn. Divine intervention perhaps? nah, can't see it.

Sometimes I wonder if I throw myself off a bridge is the right way to go, because, given the gravity of my situation here. I don't have many other choices that seem feasible.

I'm living on 25 quid a week, if even that. Pretty sad when you can't afford new gear thats reduced at 10 quid because your skint.

F my life, someone save me.

People

Some people are so confusing they could actually make me scream in their faces. They really don't have a fucking clue how annoying they are.

I'm not entirely in my mind and this daft git is actively trying to puzzle me which is just leading right up my aggression alley. I seriously can't stand it. Just wish they would shut the fuck UP!!!!

Dundee away

Finally a day that didn't go wrong!

It was an early start though and I didn't get much sleep, so after about 2 maybe 3 hours of kip I was up at half seven, showered, ready and out the door by an hour later.

I texted Stu that I was on my way and so the day began. We met up at Buchanan Galleries and walked round so I could lift my money then it was off to Sainsburys to get our vouchers for the cheap train journey. We both bought chewing gum, I never seen hide nor hair of it as it mysteriously disappeared.

Anyway after the ticketsw were booked it was off to Georgics Bar where Stu bought me the pint he owed me, i'm not a big fan of lager at 11 in the morning, though the Burger King I had soaked it up.

Onto the long train journey which was spent mostly by me and Stu talking about football memories and the people we talk to on MSN etc. Good laughs and banter all the way as we split a 2 litre bottle of cider between us between Glasgow and Perth.

Upon arrival in Dundee, we headed straight for the ground. Which, from the station isn't a half a trek! We had to ask for directions twice but we got there. I was pestered intermittently with calls from my pal Mick asking where we were and he seemed fairly surprised when I tod him we were outside Dens.

I got in for an Under 16 ticket at Dens, something I failed to do in our previous visit. Stu gpt us a pie and a coke and we headed for our seat, initially down near the front but we moved up the back with the singers as the crowd packed in.

Onwards to the game...

Dundee took the lead early, a turning shot from Leigh Griffiths beating Tuffey. Griffiths is a most talented player with a bright future ahead of him, a future as bright as his barnet one might say.

After this, Thistle turned it on, playing out of their skins as they tried to bring it level, a stone wall penalty denied by the referee akin to our game at Palmerston early in the season where a sure fire penalty was turned down and we went onto lose that game.

It seemed like we were doing everything but score, Simon Donnelly almost took the bar off the goal at the Shankly end, quite a strange thing to see us shooting towards our own fans in the 1st 45 rather than the 2nd.

So we went in at halftime a bit bewildered as to how we were losing. Onto the 2nd half.

I had predicted it, Stu had predicted, several Jags fans did too - and on the 48th minute, Gary Harkins scored for Dundee. I had a lot of respect for Gary as a Thistle player, he was easily the finest player in my short tenure at Firhill that I had seen. Not that I had much to compare him to but he stood out. That respect was thrown out the window when Gary ran towards the Jags fans when he scored.

One again the Jags would be denied goalscoring chance after goalscoring chance - Tony Bullock playing the game of his life denied us three times.

We never gave up, and despite being 2-0 down in the last five minutes we sang out hearts out willed the lads on.

We were top of the league for a week, but if we play like we did on Saturday and produce fruit. We'll be back there and we'll be hard to shift. There is nothing to fear about this league after seeing them all in action and I think if we can string together a good 2nd quarter us and the Dees will pull away at the top.

Defeated but defiant. Let's see how it goes eh?

Mon the Jags!

Thanks for reading,

Marc

Up late again

I'm up late again, sitting here downloading music as I hear Dad getting ready to go to work. Unemployment sucks.

Star of PTTV

Another day and another dramatic start. It began with me arranging to meet Stu and Chrisy in town so I made my way to the bus stop in very windy conditions.

After that I settled into sitting on the bus and fired a few texts off to some people to ease the boredom, I then made my way to the front of the bus as I appraoched Killermont Street feeling I had forgotten something I patted myself down only to realise I had forgotten my season ticket.

I then phoned my mum to tell her of the faux pas and I asked if my Dad could meet us at Firhill so he could drop it off so it was arranged and although they couldn't find it at first, it was eventually found down the side of the couch in the living room. So after meeting Stu and Chrisy we made our way round to Georgics where Chrisy had apint and I changed into my brand spanking new Thistle away top - which we were going to be wearing in the game against Airdrie.

So we were off so I could meet my dad at Firhill, I got refused a child single ticket on the subway but I paid the 1.20 for an adult one. I didn't have any money for a program or pie so both me and Stu starved the entire game, getting text updates from Louise on the Morton game.

First half was largely uneventful, Airdrie had chances but nothing too serious, same with Thistle. We were boosted with news Morton were beating Queens which meant a win would see us top the league. The first half was soured by an Airdrie red card, Scott McLaughlin went in on Paul Paton and lost his balance making it look worse than it was to me and to the referee who sent the Airdrie man off.

The sending off was the turning point, Airdrie sort of gave up and Thistle's midfield began to exert pressure, a fine move involving Simon Donnely and Chris Erskine threading BRYAN HODGE through to put the Jags in front:

It was God-ges first league goal for us and oh boy, did we enjoy it.

Simon Donnelly admittedly didn't have the best of games yesterday, but he's been scoring a good few and he put the game to bed after good work from supersub Mark Corcoran:

Allez le Sid! Thats his 5th goal of the season and that was us winning that game. Squeeky bum time at Palmerston meant that we sweated on whether Queens would make it 3-3 or not, their game ended before ours and we were topping the table. Yaldi.

Buying the away top was a bit daft considering my finances. I know that I shouldn't but I enjoyed, it got me on TV and we went top of the league. You're no, you're no...WE'RE TOP A THE LEAGUE AND YOU'RE NO.

Airdrie preview

So tomorrow we welcome Airdrie to Firhill. A chance for Thistle to exact revenge for the 1-0 reverse which coupled with the St. Johnstone victory over Morton which cost us our chance of taking the league title to the final day.

Thistle's squad have been struck down with a bug that originated in the Glasgow Warriors camp, with Paul Cairney having to come off early because he was so unwell, the wee man had to be sick at the side of the pitch. But the visitors have also had a flu bug rampant in their squad with eight first teamers missing from their ranks at their 1-0 defeat to Morton last weekend.

There has also been positive news on the Jags front with the official website informing us that contract extensions are to be signed. It didn't reveal the players but with speculation surrounding Jonny Tuffey and Liam Buchanan it is hoped they will be among the players re-signing, although I am not getting my hopes up.

Moving on to the game, we welcome back to Firhill two fan favourites albeit in the red and white of Airdrie. Simon Storey, the versatile Aussie was a staple of the Thistle back line last season playing best as a sweeper but featured as a central midfielder in the last few weeks of the season due to Gary Harkins picking up a late suspension. Simon always was a favourite of mine at Firhill and it will be difficult to see a player held in such high regard by the Thistle fans lining up for our rivals tomorrow. Simon scored once in nearly 100 Thistle appearances.

The second player is Paul Keegan. Paul was signed by Ian McCall along with Kevin McKinlay towards the end of the transfer window of his first season in charge. Paul was brought in to be the much-maligned target man position, a position he didn't do too well in along with Pau; Di Giacomo, both of whom faltered at Firhill. In his career at Thistle Paul played in 21 league games and scored twice.

As for my prediction? I'm always careful when prediciting these games after we unexpectedly lost 1-0 to Clyde when many Jags, including myself were predicting a heavy Thistle win. Airdrie also struck a shock against us twice last year both in the above league game and in the Alba Cup. It will be tight but I am hopeful Thistle can come away with a win.

College

Thinking about giving college a second go, not sure what college to go for right enough but we shall see.

Not Nineteen Forever

Sitting up here with my iPod just thinking about life and that.

I've struggled to find a job since I became unemployed in May, probably down to a mixture of it being difficult to find work and me not being motivated enough.

I mean, i'm not a dummy but i'm not the sharpest tool in the box either and if I can't even get a job as a mailroom assistant, what hope have I got. Sometimes I feel like picking admin at college was the biggest mistake I made with my life and not the wasted years at school after all.

Flipside of that is is that if I hadn't gone to college and done admin I wouldn't have gotten my Higher in English, which is the best thing that I have on my CV.

I deeply regret not going back to get my HNC in Admin, I try not to let on that my parents were right mostly because I believe that I have to be right like all of the time, but deep down I know that they were and I feel like I have really let myself down. At present I am looking to go back to college with an aim of doing something good and getting out the house because this unemployment is driving me mad, only thing stopping me doing that is my Jobseekers allowance I just don't know if I would get a bursary for the course.

Moving away from my not-so-rosy garden of academic excellence if you can even call it that and onto something a bit more personal.

I really liked this girl a while back and deep down I thought it was love, she was the first girl I actually liked, I was 16 and she was 15 at the time. We started out friends but then my feelings grew and grew. After just one year at our college she left and I stayed on to do my HNC where I met another girl who was just as nice as the previous one but myfeelings for the older one got in the way and I ended up rejecting her advances, weird huh?

We got back in touch around a year later and we met up and hung out a few times and it seemed like things would go well, which they were. I was coming to the end of my 2nd year at college and with my final exams approaching I was putting thoughts of them aside for this girl and the thought I might finally be able to get this girl and me going places. Bad move.

I failed and although we got close enough for her to give me my first kiss I still messed up and the way it was between me was exactly that - a past participle.

I'm over her now right enough and we remain friends, but the whole thing taught me something about life - there is no such thing as the perfect relationship and that even if you think that person is for you, you might not be for them. Pobodys Nerfect as the novelty hat says and thats a statement that rings true.

What I thought was love was just lust. I put that one down to age and inexperience.

Now I've moved on and stopped feeling sorry for myself over that episode of my life and I now have a group of friends around me, we have a laugh and we joke and I have plenty of time to find that someone. I'm not nineteen forever but i'm certainly not going to die tomorrow either. I also feel a lot better now that I've managed to blurt this out.

Now when Emma sees this she's going to give me hell for mentioning you know who :L

Peace and love,

MTS

Saturday post mortem

Yesterday was a great day but it carried several different and contrasting emotions before, during and after the game.

It started off with me rushing about silly for my bank card and having my dad bail me out after that I used some of the money to buy my breakfast which consisted of:

1 large bottle of orange Lucozade
2 Egg and bacon sandwiches
1 Packet of strawberry belts

Not the healthiest I know but I was low on fluids and sugar. Onto the bus and about an hour and a half into the journey my mates heard me on the phone and heard me mentioning that I didn't want Andy Barrowman to score for Inverness and they promptly started ribbing me =[. Moving on from that we finally arrived in Inverness and went to the Caley Social Club where they had a few drinks and I sat content with my bacon roll and chips.

The game itself was a bit iffy, Inverness has the first attack but nothing came of it. The game toed and froed for over half an hour until Liam Buchanan's cheeky backheel gave us the lead, cue massive celebrations. Just seconds later he did it again, this time firing a spectacular chip over the head of Ryan Esson and into the net from 25 yards.

But it was the third goal that really surprised us, Alan 'Archie' Archibald hasn't scored in the time he's been back at Firhill but on the stroke of half time he made a lung-bursting run into the box Liam had the ball squared it to him, Archie sold Esson a good dummy before finishing like a striker to make it 3-0 to the Jags at the break.

Above you can see me (furthest left, grey jacket) and my pals clearly overjoyed at Thistle's impressive finish to the first half.

The second half was something to maybe forget as Thistle in typical fashion not so much gave up but didn't show that quick fire draw that brought three first hald goals and Inverness who had been poor throughout took umbrage from their poor first half and Adam Rooney's penalty followed by a Richie Foran header to pull it back to 3-2 and thus rejuvanated the Highlanders. The ref added on 5 minutes at the end but to be fair with our players having to take sickness pills it seemed fair and it finished

Fake Thistle 2-3 Real Thistle

The night was a non-=event really, my pal came down and stayed the night because his mum and dad were away and he felt bit uneasy after some people were chapping his door. Onwards to next week with the return of Stu Murphy and the debut of Marc in his pink camoflage top.

Thanks for reading =]

Inverness preview

Tomorrow we head for Inverness, my first visit there is not one I would like to look back on fondly.

But in all honesty, from what I remember of that day, and there isn't a lot, we didn't actually play as poorly as the 3-0 scoreline would have you think.

But moving away from that and almost a year on we meet in the league for the first time since 2002 when we were also beaten 3-0. Thistle welcome back Liam Buchanan tomorrow after he missed last week's centenary game with Dunfermline due to his red card against Raith the week previous and although Thistle won comfortably against the Pars without their main man, there seemed to be something lacking about us going forward.

Fromn whats been said the home side may shuffle the pack tomorro0w given their midweek cup exertions against Motherwell with Andy Barrowman being a possible starter. Largely ineffective in the time he was on the park against us in the Alba Cup tie at Firhill, he still scored against us in the shootout that ultimately saw Caley through.

Its at times like this when you maybe start to get an idea of how the league is turning out, once everyones played 6 or 7 games and they don't have half the league to play you can see how it will pan out and, albeit with a couple of surprise names in Raith and Ross County up near the top, it's going to be like I predicted, a tight tussle between Thistle, Dundee and Inverness with Dunfermline not far behind and Queen of the South in the middle.

So onto tomorrow, early start for me so it's up at 6.30 AM then get everything sorted shower wise etc. then phone Mick and head up there then the bus into Glasgow and onto the coach up to Inverness for half 12. Good times!

Live long and prosper

Sparky update

Hey there people, just updating the blog.

I've pulled a muscle in my back right at the bottom above my backside, no dount down to my broken bed, makes me a bit apprehensive about going to the gym.

On Saturday i'm away to Inverness for the game. Been up there once before and we lost 3-0 on a pish day. We leave at half 9 so I need to get into Glasgow for at least 9 or quarter to. Ugh.

Moving slightly away from football, I've been given two jobs to apply for from the job centre - gonna get those apps away then after that its down to the Leisuredrome to hand in my gym membership doctors note.

Been talking to this girl of late, she's nice and a good laugh. I hope to meet her sometime, MSN has its advantages but at the same time it is so impersonal.

Come on...

...the South tomorrow against Rangers! FTOF

Breaking the tape

Over the past few months since I was unemployed I've not been myself but since I started thinking differently it's taken off and I put it down to my music. I've been listening to my iPod and Spotify a lot lately and a few songs have made me think about what I've been through and how I now feel.

Marc's getting over the hill top 20:

20. Working on a Dream - Bruce Springsteen - I'm a big boss fan and anything by him is bound to get the flowing whether its the fast, lively From Small Things Big Things One Day Come, which also appears on my top 20 to The River, which falls just short. This song just fills you with that belief and determination and that you can work on your own dream.

19. Digital Love - Daft Punk - Admittedly I am not a fan of electronic/dance music, but there are some aspects of Daft Punk that I love and this is my favourite song because of one line, "Oh I don't know what to do, about this dream and you, we'll make this dream come true"

18. Not Enough - Our Lady Peace - My favourite band's first of many appearances on this list. Not Enough is a song I have LOVED since I was quite young, mostly down to my love for wrestling [at the time] and Jeff Hardy, this song was used as his 'desire' promo theme years and years ago and the little bit where the guitar starts thumping and Raine belts it it's not enough repeatedly gets the blood flowing.

17. The End - The Doors - The slow, eery ballad that made the Doors famous is my favourite song of theirs. The soft, slow rhythm of the song coupled with Jim Morrison's deep, soulful vocals makes it almost enchanting. One can almost imagine Morrison talking to them in their sub-conscience. One for the lower points but certainly had to be included.

16. Jukebox Hero/Whole Lotta Love [Live 2005] - Foreigner - I love to air guitar and go mental at this song, it is loud, bangy and very cathartic to lose yourself in its energetic delivery.

15. Loch Lomond - Runrig - Never feel more Scottish when I have this song on. Happy times ^_^

14. Dirty Love - Thunder - I love this song, have done for a while. One of many songs that remind me of the first love that I lost.

13. Far Away - Nickelback - The favourite song of a girl I turned away because I didn't want to ruin our friendship, but then realised that was a really stupid thing to do.

12. Friends O'Mine - Bowling For Soup - Song that means more now than ever =)

11. Jump - Van Halen - More shouty, mental madness, this time from my favourite hair metal band

10. Rosalita (Come Out Tonight) - Bruce Springsteen - Felt something for this girl once and this song immediately took on a new meaning at the time, still love it anyway. Young lovers everywhere should listen to this song,

9. Song 2 - Blur - Thistle's goal song ^_^ One of the songs that makes me buzz - when at Firhill. Football is a big part of my life.

8. Forever Young - Rod Stewart - My favourite Rod Stewart song makes me realise that I haven't maybe ruined everything yet, best is yet to come.

7. Good Fucking Bye - Alkaline Trio - Song that took on a new meaning after my fall out with my first love.

6. Outlaw Pete - Bruce Springsteen - This is a brilliant, brilliant song. I could run out of superlatives for it it's that good. The song reads like an epic poem and just ranks as one of my all-time favourites.

5. Hallelujah - Jeff Buckley - Heart-jarring, emotive and sheer brilliance - and thats just the backing track! Jeff's voice is one of the finest in music, he put his heart into every song and it's felt in this brilliant song which I always play when I want to relax.

4. Heaven - Bryan Adams - Song for my newer, happier times :)

3. Thunder Road - Bruce Springsteen - Another Springsteeb song I could run out of superlatives for. I took after my Father in listening to him and again take after my Father in having this as my favourite song of Bruce's

2. Unwell - Matchbox Twenty - A song I hadn't even heard til earlier today! It just made me thinmabout all the stuff I've been through and how i'd come through it all.

1. All You Did Was Save My Life - Our Lady Peace - A song that I heard recently that means something further back. When the first love of my life effectively did save my life, not literally. I was going through hell and couldn't cope with unemployment and thought extensively about taking it. I didn't and this song sticks in my head to remind me of it.

Well, thats all folks hope you enjoy not reading (a)
